GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Sanitary protocols were not respected in this city as thousands of supporters showed up for the campaign of boxing icon and Senator Emmanuel Pacquiao, presidential candidate in the May 9 elections .
In that city’s Oval Square, Pacquiao supporters from different locations ignored signs and placards advising people to observe social distancing.
The huge crowd outnumbered the police deployed to implement COVID-19 measures.
“I am already vaccinated. I don’t mind catching the virus. I’m just going to take more vitamins,” Ronny Balumas, a supporter, told the Inquirer.
On the first day of the national campaign, Pacquiao visited workers at the fishing port and village of Pacman in the morning before proceeding with his motorcade in the early afternoon just before his proclamation rally in the Oval Square.
