Health protocols, vaccination key for a safe end of year vacation: govt

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Health protocols and vaccinations are crucial to preventing a surge in coronavirus infections during the Christmas and New Year holidays, a government official said.

“The keys to our success in dealing with the Christmas and New Year period are two in number, the first is raising public awareness to continue to wear masks and not to delay vaccination,” said Wiku Adisasmito , spokesperson for the COVID-19 working group. a press conference accessible by Thursday.

Meanwhile, the second key is the government’s seriousness in monitoring health protocols and distributing vaccines in areas with low vaccination coverage, he said.

Currently, Indonesians are still allowed to conduct their activities by implementing health protocols, he noted. However, the wearing of the mask is not yet well supervised although it is mandatory, he stressed.

“In fact, in some public places such as terminals and markets, there are still many violations,” he said.

For this reason, the implementation of health protocols should be seriously monitored by ensuring that the task force is mobilized in all public places, he suggested. If people are careless, the potential for an increase in cases will be even greater, Adisasmito said.

In addition, the government must also increase the country’s immunization coverage since it is still below 50 percent, he said.

Full immunization coverage is the government’s current goal, as people can be better protected against the virus once they receive a full dose compared to a single dose, he said.

“Therefore, Indonesia can avoid the threat of a third wave after the Christmas and New Years period if at least the implementation of health protocols and immunization coverage continue to be increased,” he said. he adds.
