The Special Committee to Combat COVID-19 emphasizes that with the opening of the country, the respective sectors should closely monitor whether the health guidelines are fully implemented.

Public gatherings will take place after the curfew is lifted. At the same time, the health sector has stressed the need to take into account the health directives issued in order to avoid the reappearance of any risk of the spread of the Covid pandemic.

They made this observation during the online meeting of the Special Committee on the Control of COVID-19 chaired by Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa held this morning (01).

The health instructions to be observed when summoning public and private sector employees to work and in terms of transport activities must be maintained in accordance with the circulars concerned. The corresponding circulars have already been published on the websites of the ministries. The Ministry of Transport also plans to increase the number of buses and trains according to passenger needs.

About 95% of the total population over the age of 30 has been vaccinated with both doses. Vaccination of people aged 20 to 30 and vaccination of children aged 12 to 19 with chronic diseases are proceeding successfully. The Special Committee to Combat COVID-19 has decided to proceed with a full census of vaccinations as soon as possible.

A long discussion took place on the health measures that should be taken for the advancement of tourism and economic sectors.

It was decided to continuously provide the instructions of the health experts to the public through the media, to control the pandemic situation and to keep the daily life of people uninterrupted.

Ministers Keheliya Rambukwella, Bandula Gunawardana, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Dullas Alaaderuma, Johnston Fernando, Ramesh Pathirana, Prasanna Ranatunga, Ministers of State Sudarshini Fernandopulle, Sisira Jayakody, Channa Jayasumana, MP Madhura Withanage, Heads of Ministerial Services health and members of the special COVID-19 control committee were present at the meeting.
